Release information:

Lampião Rei is the second album by the Paraíba-based band Papangu, released in a special 180-gram translucent vinyl edition. This is the first Brazilian pressing of the record, presenting a narrative inspired by the life of Virgulino Ferreira da Silva, known as Lampião, from his childhood to his rise as a legendary figure of the cangaço.

The album blends progressive metal, jazz, and northeastern Brazilian rhythms in striking compositions such as “Oferenda no Alguidar” and “Rito de Coroação.” A standout feature is the special participation of Paulo Ró, co-founder of the experimental group Jaguaribe Carne, on the track “Ruínas.” With a career spanning 50 years of musical experimentation, Paulo Ró’s contribution strengthens the album's connection to the rich cultural heritage of northeastern Brazilian music. Additionally, Lampião Rei was recorded live at El Rocha studio in São Paulo, with collaborations from renowned artists such as João Kombi (Test) and Philippe Bussonnet (Magma).

This edition is a must-have for collectors and fans of Brazilian music, offering a unique sonic experience that delves into the roots and possibilities of contemporary northeastern music.
